Bulgaria history tour
Bulgaria is crossed by historically important routes from northern and
eastern Europe to the Mediterranean basin and from western and central
Europe to the Middle East. It is bounded by Romania on the north, most
of the border being marked by the lower Danube River. The Black Sea
lies to the east, Turkey and Greece to the south, Macedonia to the southwest,
and the Yugoslav republic of Serbia to the west.
Day 1 - Saturday: Sofia Arrival in Sofia, transfer to your hotel.
Overnight (D).
Day 2 - Sunday: Sofia - Pleven Morning departure for Pleven.
On the way sightseeing the Troyan Monastery and the Oreshaka. Lunch.
Proceed on to Pleven. Visit the "Panorama" museum. Overnight (B,D)
Day 3 - Monday: Pleven - Veliko Tarnovo Morning departure for
Veliko Tarnovo. Sightseeing of Tarnovo - an ancient Bulgarian capital.
Visit the museum village Arbanassi. Lunch. Sightseeing Tzarevetz Holy
Hill. Overnight (B,D)
Day 4 - Tuesday: Veliko Tarnovo - Kazanlak - Plovdiv Morning
departure for Plovdiv. On the way sightseeing the spectacular Shipka
pass. Lunch at Kazanlak and then visit the famous Valley of Roses (the
Rose's museum and the sepulchre Thrace). Overnight (B,D)
Day 5 - Wednesday: Plovdiv - Bansko Morning sightseeing tour
of Plovdiv. See the Old Quarter. Lunch. Visit the 11-th century Bachkovo
Monastery . Proceed on to Bansko. Overnight (B,D)
Day 6 - Thursday: Bansko - Melnik - Sandanski Morning departure
for Sandanski. On the way see the Rozhen Monastery. Visit Melnik village
- lunch with wine testing. Departure for Sandanski. Overnight (B,D).
Day 7 - Friday: Sandanski - Sofia Morning leave for the 10-th
century Rila Monastery, one of Europe's oldest and included in UNESCO's
World Heritage List. Lunch. Continue to Sofia. Overnight (B,D)
Day 8 - Saturday: Sofia Morning sightseeing tour of Sofia. Lunch.
Transfer to Sofia airport (B)
