Bulgarian Wine & Dine Tour

1st day : Arrival at Sofia airport. Half-day sightseeing tour of the city, including a walk in the central area with visit to Al. Nevski Cathedral, St. Sofia church, Ruins of Roman and mediaeval period, Russian Church and St. George Rotunda (4th c. AD) . Dinner and overnight at 4-star hotel in Sofia.

2nd day : After breakfast drive from Sofia to Rila monastery – the largest and one of oldest Bulgarian monasteries (10th c.), under UNESCO protection with medieval defence tower from the 14th c. and fine frescoes. Departure from Rila to Sandanski – famous spa resort. Wine tasting of white and red wines such as Chardonnay Prestige, Rose Melnik, Uniqato Melnik, Rose Melnik in wine cellar Damjanica. Dinner and overnight at 4-star Sandanski hotel in Sandanski.

3rd day : Departure to Bansko – winter resort in Pirin Mountain. Time for enjoying the atmosphere of the picturesque small town with typical old houses from the National Revival period. Visit of the Holly Trinity church (1832) and the ethnographic exhibition-bazar of traditional crafts. Drive to Plovdiv – the second biggest town in Bulgaria. Wine tasting of white and red wines such as Rikat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mavrud and Merlot in Brestovitsa Wine Cellar. Dinner and overnight at 4–star hotel in Plovdiv.

4th day : Half-day sightseeing of the old part of the town with beautiful houses from the Bulgarian Revival period (18th – 19th c.). Visit of the ethnographic museum, Roman theatre und St. Constantine and Elena church. Drive to Kazanlak the capital of the Rose Valley. Dinner with wine tasting of white wines such as Misket Classik from Karlovo, Muskat, Chardonnay in folk-style restaurant in Kazanlak. Overnight at 3 –star hotel in Kazanlak.

5th day : Visit of the Rose museum and of Thracian tomb (4th-3rd c. BC). Drive through Shipka pass to the town of Veliko Tarnovo – capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (12th-14th c.), picturesquely situated on the hills at the banks of the meandering river Jantra. Visit of the mediaeval fortress of Tsarevets hill. Dinner and wine tasting of white and red wines such as Chardonnay, Aligote, Lyaskovets Cabernet and Merlot in the wine cellar of Lyaskovets. Overnight at 3-star hotel in Veliko Turnovo.

6th day : Excursion to the museum village of Arbanassi architectural reserve with houses and churches from 17th –19th c. (Jesus Christ’s Nativity Church which interior is covered in frescos depicting 2000 scenes). Drive to Pleven. Wine tasting of white and red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Storgozia and Riesling in the Viticulture and Winemaking Research Institute in Pleven. Dinner and overnight at 3-star hotel in Pleven.

7th day : Sightseeing of Pleven with Pleven Epopee Panorama 1877, Historic museum and Gallery “ Svetlin Rusev” ( rich exhibition of Bulgarian and foreign painters). Drive to Sofia. Dinner with Bulgarian specialties and folklore show at a folk style restaurant located in the suburbs of Sofia. Overnight at 4-star hotel in Sofia.

8th day : Tranfer to the airport. Departure.
